NBA Playoff Injuries Don’t Equal Asterisks
Injuries suck, but that doesn’t mean the NBA playoffs and its eventual champion should have an asterisk. Giannis Antetokounmpo was the latest star to go down in the Bucks’ Game 4 loss to the Hawks, joining the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid, Chris Paul, Trae Young and Donovan Mitchell on the list of players who have been limited or taken out by injuries this postseason. But while these stars are definitely missed by their teams and fans alike, the reality is that injuries are a part of sports and play a role in determining every champion. So while the NBA must ask itself if all these injuries should be attributed to a shortened offseason, condensed schedule or just bad luck, the teams should all know that this season counts just like any other.
